OUR HISTORY

Our History

Poddar Group’s story is one of steady, deliberate growth — from moving commodities through Eastern India’s markets to running businesses across agriculture and industry.

WHERE IT BEGAN

Roots in the Commodity Trade

The group started in trading — buying and selling agricultural commodities in Eastern India. It was demanding work with thin margins and no room for shortcuts, and it built the instincts the group still runs on: read the market carefully, keep your word, and let quality do the talking.

Years in commodities gave the group a working knowledge of how agricultural supply chains behave — from how pulses and grains are graded to how feed moves to buyers. That knowledge became the foundation for everything the group would later build around agriculture.

GROWING OUTWARD

How the Group Took Shape

Rather than stay purely in trading, the group began moving into businesses that sat alongside it. If it was handling grain, it made sense to process it, to package it, and eventually to put surplus grain to work as fuel.

Over time, the group’s activities separated into distinct companies — each with its own market, its own customers, and its own team, held together by common ownership and a shared standard of doing things properly.

Producing PP woven sacks and industrial packaging meant running plants, managing production quality, and meeting the exacting requirements of industrial buyers. It moved the group from being a trader to being a maker.

Grain-based ethanol connected the group’s agricultural roots to India’s growing appetite for cleaner fuel. The group already understood grain, and ethanol offered a productive, forward-looking use for it.

As the businesses grew, so did the need to store and move goods reliably. The group invested in warehousing and logistics infrastructure that supports its own operations and serves large enterprise requirements as well.

TODAY

Five Businesses, One House

Today Poddar Group operates across five verticals — agro commodities, packaging, ethanol and biofuels, agri processing, and industrial and logistics infrastructure. From its base in Kolkata, the group works across Eastern India and into wider markets, still guided by the values that named its companies.

WHAT'S NEXT

More of the Same Discipline

The group’s next chapters are likely to look like its last ones: deeper into the chain it already knows, with cleaner fuel, better processing and stronger logistics. The ambition is steady rather than sudden.
